TASTING NOTE

Viejo CP takes its name from the Calle Ponce, the street in Jerez where the original barrels were stored. It is a Palo Cortado of approximately twenty-five years, fed by selected casks from the Inocente and Tío Diego soleras — barrels where the flor died spontaneously, creating the circumstantial wine that Palo Cortado has always been. Though not officially age-certified as VORS, it far exceeds most VORS wines in complexity and depth.

The nose is precise and expansive: dried orange peel, hazelnut cream, walnut, old leather and a fine iodine note that recalls the Macharnudo terroir that produced the base wines. The palate is full and elegant simultaneously — the defining quality of great Palo Cortado — with excellent acidity, generous body and a long, clean, saline finish. A wine that perfectly illustrates the paradox at the heart of its category: simultaneously structured and delicate, nutty and fresh, oxidative and alive. One of the finest Palo Cortados at any price.
