The 1/14 designation refers to the single barrel from which this VORS Oloroso is drawn: one bota from a solera of fourteen. Average age exceeds fifty years; the formal VORS certification requires only thirty. Like all the great wines of El Maestro Sierra, it is bottled by hand in very limited quantities — around four hundred bottles per year — with minimal filtration and maximum care.
The colour is a deep amber-mahogany, darker and denser than the 15 Años. The nose requires time: it opens slowly, revealing layers of dark walnut, dried fig, old leather, tobacco and a profound mineral depth that only very long ageing in old wood can produce. The palate is salty and savory, with mouth-filling flavours of roasted nuts and a ripe, slightly sweet edge from the concentration of sugars by evaporation. The acidity is excellent, providing freshness and structure. The finish is very long and complex. One of the finest VORS Olorosos produced in Jerez.
