Alameda is Hidalgo’s Cream-style wine: an Oloroso sweetened with a proportion of Pedro Ximénez to produce an approachable, moderately sweet fortified wine. The Alameda name refers to the tree-lined avenues — alamedas — that are a feature of Andalucían town planning, suggesting a wine for relaxed, convivial moments.
The colour is a deep amber-brown. The nose combines the nutty, oxidative character of old Oloroso with the raisined sweetness of Pedro Ximénez: dark caramel, walnut, dried figs and a warming spice note. The palate has a gentle sweetness and a rounded, glycerol-rich texture with a moderately long finish. An accessible and well-made Cream Sherry from a producer whose more serious wines are among the finest in Sanlúcar.
